Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4: Google should finally replace this feature

Google may well remove Fitbit Pay. According to a new rumor, Google Wallet could be used as a payment platform on future Fitbit devices. The move could be part of further integration of Google services into Fitbit fitness trackers and smartwatches, following the company’s takeover two years ago.

  • Google Wallet could be integrated into future Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4
  • Fitbit is expected to launch Sense 2, Versa 4 and Inspire 3 soon

The Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4 have been rumored for quite some time now. If the design of the two smartwatches is conceived, their new functions are still shrouded in mystery. However, a new image discovered by 9to5Google from the latest Play Services app reveals Google’s plan to integrate its Wallet app into Fitbit devices, possibly arriving first with the Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 4.

Besides the resemblance of the graphics to the Sense and Versa smartwatches, Google Pay was also mentioned. The payment service has been rebranded as Google Wallet for most countries, but payment transactions are still based and initiated with Google Pay. Users may have an alternative to use Google Wallet or Fitbit’s Wallet version on supported devices.

Much like the addition of Google Assistant on the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3, it makes sense for Google to use its own payment platform instead of relying on Fitbit Pay or Wallet. To date, Google Wallet is much more widely adopted in many countries. The app is also more intuitive to use than Fitbit Pay.

Nothing else confirms whether Fitbit Pay will be globally replaced by Google Wallet. Meanwhile, Fitbit is expected to launch its new smartwatches as well as fitness trackers soon this year. Rumor has it that the Sense 2 and Versa 4 will get a new design.
