Franky Zapata presents a new aircraft, a “flying car”

Another means of transport straight from the future! Three years after crossing the English Channel, inventor Franky Zapata released images of his new flying machine, a variant of his “Flyboard”, on Thursday. What is special about this new aircraft? It allows a seated pilot to be carried through the air.

This vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) machine could reach a speed of 250 km / h, with a range of around 40 km, the company Zapata told AFP. In the video released this Thursday, Franky Zapata flies over the Etang de Berre (Bouches-du-Rhône), harnessed in a light chassis surrounded by ten small reactors, and performs some acrobatics.

This device called “JetRacer”, fueled by kerosene, emphasizes “agility” and it is “easy to handle”, underlined Franky Zapata. Being able to be “controlled remotely”, it is intended for emergency forces, the army or for extreme leisure, but not for daily travel.

New machines in preparation

The former jet-ski world champion distinguished himself on August 4, 2019 by flying over the Channel on his “Flyboard”, a flying board that this 43-year-old self-taught invented himself. He then announced the presentation of a “flying car” for the end of 2019. In the spring of 2022, a first demonstration at the Salon-de-Provence aerodrome had been canceled at the last minute, for lack of authorization from the prefecture. and civil aviation.

The company is currently building two other JetRacers that it wants to have amateurs test during a campaign in the United States. Zapata, which has around thirty employees according to its founder, is also preparing for the end of 2022 a single-seater flying machine which, hybrid, “consumes less fuel than a rolling car”.
