Haiphong (VNA) – According to Politburo Resolution 45-NQ/TW on the construction and development of Hai Phong City by 2030, with a vision for 2045, this northern port city will become a science and technology development hub. country’s navies.

To achieve this goal, Hai Phong has set a number of guidelines for the development of science and technology, emphasizing the research, transfer and application of projects in line with the city’s development strategy.

In 2022, the city continues to renew its growth model, restructure its economy towards the development of high-tech industries, seaports and logistics, tourism and trade. These are the three economic pillars of Hai Phong.

Hai Phong’s economy has experienced strong growth. Its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the period 2016-2020 increased by 14.02% per year on average, 2.1 times more than the country’s growth rate (6.68% / year), according to the President of the Municipal People’s Committee, Nguyên Van Tung.

These results are due to research, application and development of science and technology. More specifically, high-tech industries have experienced strong development. The proportion of the value of high-tech products and high-tech applied products in the city’s total industrial output value reached 40.12% in 2021, compared to 39.5% in 2019. The share of the value of high-tech industrial products in manufacturing sectors has seen a rapid increase, from 16.4% in 2015 to 50% in 2021.

Hai Phong has also strengthened research work and the application of science and technology in agriculture and aquaculture, in association with the construction of New Rurality. The application of advanced technologies in agricultural production and post-harvest preservation of products has helped to increase the yield and quality of agricultural products. The value of agricultural crops and aquaculture products per hectare in Hai Phong increased from 72.95 million VND/ha/year in 2008 to 169.1 million VND/ha/year in 2021.

Currently, the city is committed to promoting the research and application of marine science and technology, while ensuring the protection of natural and environmental resources, and promoting the development of human resources. These are important factors for the sustainable development of its maritime economy.

Hai Phong Municipal People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Tung said his city promotes the sustainable development of the maritime economy, the protection of maritime sovereignty, and national defense and security.

The city encourages relevant bodies to carry out research on the efficient management and exploitation of marine resources, the application of new technologies in the development of important sectors of the maritime economy such as seaports, services port and maritime services, tourist services, shipbuilding, fishing logistics services, aquaculture, fishing, processing of aquatic products.

During its November 2021 session, the National Assembly approved a resolution on specific policies applied to Hai Phong. The objective is to make the port city a new engine of growth for the country. In a recent meeting with city officials, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh outlined the tasks Hai Phong needs to accomplish for stronger growth.

“Hai Phong must value its autonomy for rapid and sustainable development. Development that must be based on science and technology, on innovation and on digital transformation. You must develop a modern and environmentally friendly industry, intelligent and useful services, ecological tourism and bio-agriculture. But economic development must go hand in hand with socio-cultural development and maintaining national defense,” he stressed.

Hai Phong has set itself the goal of achieving growth of more than 13% this year. -VNA
